  1. Robert H. Miller (1810-1887) married Ankey Alderson (1810-1890) in 1834. She was a daughter of James and Elizabeth Alderson, a Baptist family from Monroe County. Shortly after their wedding, the Millers couple moved to Hancock County, Indiana. They returned to Virginia for a brief time, but then settled permanently in Morgan County, Indiana, about 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis. They are said to have arrived there in 1836, and records show that Robert purchased some 320 acres of land in Ashland and Jefferson Townships, near Martinsville, between 1837 and 1851. He was described in 1884 as a practical farmer and an esteemed gentleman and citizen. The Millers had seven children: Alexander (b. 1837), Louisa (b. 1839), Robert (b. 1841), Oliver (b. 1843), John (b. 1846), Martha (b. 1847), and Isabel (b. 1850). All four sons and at least one of the daughters (Martha) remained in Morgan County. Robert served in the Union army during the Civil War and “died from the exposure of a soldier. John was described in 1884 as a farmer and stock-raiser with four children, including a son who was attending Asbury University.
