References
  1. 1.0 1.1 Jean or Jane Hodge (1780-1836) was apparently of English descent. Her father was John Hodge (1742?-1797), elder son of Samuel Hodge (d. 1773), an immigrant who had been a pioneer settler on the Calfpasture River in Augusta County, Virginia, in the 1740s. Her mother was Jane Hamilton (b. 1749?). Jean was born on February 26, 1780. On January 27, 1803, she married John Miller (1772-1854), who was likewise a native of Augusta County. In 1805, they moved across the Alleghenies to settle on Lick Creek in Greenbrier County, Virginia (now Summers County, West Virginia). They had nine children who survived to adulthood.
