Facts and Events
Notes
- Though a Virginian, the first Robert Young Conrad (1805-1875) was opposed to the secession of the Southern states. Nonetheless, he represented this area at the Virginia Secession Convention of 1861. Adhering to the wishes of his constituents, he voted against secession; however, once the war began, he vigorously supported the Southern cause. In fact, his five sons served in the Confederate Army.
