__________________________ [edit] OverviewRobert Buchanan's birthdate is listed as being variously between 1733-1741, likely closer to the former date, which would agree with the headstone on his grave in Williamson County, Tennessee. He is very likely the Robert Buchanan that obtained a license to marry in Augusta County in May 1761 [Chalkley's Vol. 2]. The name of his wife was "Mary", but her maiden name and parentage has not been established {note some claim she was "Mary Ann Wilson", others claim she was "Mary Jamison", without attribution other than that of a Family Group Sheet]. Shortly after his Augusta County marriage in 1761, Robert obtained a tract of 208 acres in the Borden Tract from James and Mary Henry on 8 May 1762, but sold it just a few years later on 18 May 1765, perhaps as a result of the Indian hostilities during that time period. It is unknown where Robert and Mary migrated to after the sale of their land in 1765, although it is certainly possible that they may have migrated to nearby Washington County, Virginia, where other members of the Buchanan family were living at that time. He also may have migrated to Tennessee (possibly Davidson County), with other members of the Buchanan family. His will or estate records have not been located as yet, although his grave has been located in Williamson County, Tennessee. Additional research/sources are needed on this family, collaboration (with sources) is welcome from researchers. [edit] Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VARobert Buchanan's land (Borden Tract NE, 208 acres acquired from James Henry and his wife Mary on 8 May 1762) as shown on the map meticulously drawn by J.R. Hildebrand, cartographer. This map is copyrighted©, used by permission of John Hildebrand, son of J.R. Hildebrand, April, 2009. [Note: the 208-acre tract was part of James Henry's original 408-acre patent. The portion sold to Robert Buchanan is listed as bordering that of Andrew Steele, who had an adjoining 463½-acre tract to the northwest. The other 200-acre tract that James Henry owned was sold to Robert Telford on 21 March 1759]. Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:
