William Darke's Company; granted Pension age 74 in Jefferson County, Virginia, 1829, when had 4 daughters; died 6/15/1834, leaving wife & children mentioned but not named; query letter in file in 1823 from descendant Miss Virginia Merrills, Bellesville, IL, states soldier married 7/31/1777 to Martha Dark & daughter Martha was born in 1778, R97.

Will of Robert Avis of Jefferson County & State of Virginia
Names wife Elizabeth Avis "I give unto my wife Elizabeth Avis the House and Lot on which I now live".
Names three daughters, viz: Betsey Ellen & Virginia Washington and Mary Avil.
"I furthermore will the two story house now in the occupancy of Mr. Joshua Riley to be rented out, the rents of said house to be applied to the schooling & clothing the above named three daughters Betsey Ellen, Virginia Washington & Mary Avis until they be of proper age, say fifteen years old, and for the necessary use of maintaining them and my above named wife Elizabeth Avis."
Names son John Avis, Samuel Avis, & Elizabeth Cramer "the sum of Five Dollars each of them fifteen Dollars to be paid out of the rents of some part of my property in twelve months after my death".
