State of Michigan Death Record Date of death: 3-Dec-1871 Ledger Page: 278 Record Number: 210 Place of death: Henrietta County of Death: Jackson Sex: Male Race: White Marital Status: Widowed Age: 51 years 4 months 24 days Cause of Death: Dropsy Birthplace: England Occupation: Farmer Father's Name: Willmore, William Father's Residence: England Mother's Name: Willmore, Zella Mother's Residence: England Date of record:7-Jun-1872 (This record would give him a birth date of July 9, 1820) Name: Richard Willmore Buried: Woodlawn Cemetery Section: lot 15 County/State: Ingham, MI Notes: Book: sec. 2; Pg. 10 While doing some research for a history of the City of Leslie Michigan, I came across an old Sexton Record for Woodlawn Cemetery. This book is a small, well worn, brown book measuring about 6 inches by 8 inches. Some of the pages are torn and have small portions missing. It is hard to read and faded. The book is divided into two sections. The first, The Old Ground is listed in the front of the book A-Z. The second portion begins in the center and is listed as The New Ground and is in the form Z-A. The names are not in alphabetical order, but by order of burial. Few have dates, almost all have lot numbers. Listing this way can make research difficult to say the least. This is why I have taken each name out and placed it in alphabetical order. This work is also divided into two sections as the first was. There are notes on the insides of both covers. Inside the front cover RECORDS OF THE LESLIE CEMETERY H.H. SEXTON. Inside the rear cover Adams 21,58 Barden 081 Walter Lewis 220 Bob C. Blair Charles E. Sane no99 Leslie Dec 2,1885. Record of the Leslie Cemetery, R. B. Huntoon Sexton Leslie Ingham Co Mich The cemetery is located on the north side of the City near the intersection of Church and Adams St. It was originally part of land taken up in 1836 by D.F. Dwight. Some entries are shown as moved from the Covert Cemetery This was a burial ground near what is now the intersection of Covert and Tuttle Roads in Leslie Township. Richard is buried in the family plot owned by William Whallon, along with Eliza. William was in the Civil War, as his tombstone indicates, with a finely drawn Union soldier etched on the side. Richard's stone says "born in England June 10, 1820, died in Henrietta December 3, 1871 aged 51y 5m 23d - Gone but not forgotten".
