Gaines, Richard - entered service 1774-5 in Culpeper County, Virginia; applied for Pension 1832 in Laurens District, South Carolina & Pension Application rejected, insufficient proof of 6 months service; died 11/9/1837, leaving no widow but children (all living in 1853): Mary Ellen wife of George Tierce, William, Stephen, Henry & James (age 62 in 1853, & resided in Cass County, Georgia); query letter in file states soldier married Elizabeth Broaddus; query letter states soldier died in Poplar Springs, South Carolina, & was buried there, having moved there with father after Revolutionary War.
