History

Laurens County is named after Continental Congress President Henry Laurens (1724-1792) of South Carolina.
- 1785 - Thirty-three counties were created within existing South Carolina Districts. Laurens County was created within Ninety-Six District.
- 1800 - Laurens was re-christened a district and Ninety-Six District was abolished.
- 1868 - Laurens and all other districts became counties.
