At age 13, Richard was shown on the 1841 census of Ideford and was an Agricultural laborer working for William Honeywell. Also working there was his older brother, William. Richard later worked at Bovey Pottery as a waggoner. They moved to Dalton where he worked in the mines. Richard and Sarah died soon after their arrival in Dalton, leaving their 5 sons as orphans. They are buried in Dalton Cemetery, letter A, section C, plot numbers 1048 and 1049. Their graves were unmarked until we had a stone placed in April of 2000. Subsequent to placing the stone, Richard's birthyear was found to be 1827 rather than the 1828 we had engraved. [Marti Babb]
