Ralph Read, s/o John Read and Elizabeth, b. 5 Sep 1686, m. 1709 Mary Pierce.
[Note: Reed gives no further identification of Mary, and there is no record of this marriage. Except for Wm Cutter parroting this information, there seems to be no other sign that Mary's maiden name was Pierce. It may have been. Benjamin Pierce and Mary Reed had a daughter Mary in early 1692, which would have been Ralph's cousin. This is a marginal match to the 1688 birth calculated from her age at death. No marriage for this Mary is given in either Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Peirce Genealogy : Being the Record of the Posterity of John Pers, an Early Inhabitant of Watertown, in New England, Who or Source:Pierce, Frederic Beech. Pierce Genealogy : Being the Record of the Posterity of Thomas Pierce, an Early Inhabitant of Charlestown and Afterwords, both of whom claim Benjamin Pierce for their branch. Given how error-filled Reed is, it seems at least probable that the author confused Ralph with his grandfather who did marry a Mary Pierce.]
