"Ralph Hill of Plymouth and Billerica, Middlesex, MA, Descendants to the Fifth Generation," by Donna Valley Russell: "...married there Billerica 15 November 1660 Martha Toothaker, born in Plymouth Colony ca. 1636, the daughter of Roger and Martha [--?--] Toothaker, and died in Billerica 4 January 1703/04, aged ca 69. She was Ralph's stepsister.

"Captain Ralph Hill Jr. was active in the town affairs of Billerica. With his father, he signed the request to the General Court to change the name of the town from Shawshin ca. 23 8 1654, as mentioned, and town records show his signature on documents relating to the appointment and housing of the first minister, Samuel Whiting, Jr.; on 25 7 1660, he took part in the building of the Meeting House and was on a committee to join with the neighboring town of Chelmsford to repair the bridge over the Concord River on 25 7 1660. In the same year he was chosen to serve on the jury of trials; in 1661 he was paid L1 by the town for killing wolves, and on 9 September 1664, he was paid 18 shillings for two days work viewing the meadows with John Sterne.

"Active in the defense of the town against Indian attack, Ensign and later Captain Hill had a garrison at his house in 1675 and signed an appeal to the General Court for relief from attack on 9 12 1676. He was on a list of freemen for 18 April 1690."

"Ralph Jr, had a lot in the Township now Billerica Center. On 6 9 1655, the Town Committee granted him additional land north of his house lot, but he soon bought the lot next south of his father on the dudley Farm and sold the Township lots to John Poulter... etc.

"Ralph wrote his will 2 April 1695 and died one week later; it was probated in Middlesex Co 3 May 1696. Executors were his sons Samuel and Daniel; witnesses were Joseph Tompson, John French, and Samuel Hill...etc."
