Disputes over the property of Philip's father-in-law John Flood, which Philip inherited through his wife Mary, documented his marriages and children:

  • With Mary C. Valentine: Edmund (living in Iowa), John, and Mary m. Jacob Brandt (both deceased by 1892).
  • Mary Flood, at the time she married Philip, had children William (dec'd by 1892), Lucy Ann Abe, Eunice Flood, and Isaac Long. Lucy and Isaac were adopted by Philip and recognized as his legal guardian. [DNA tests have evidently shown that Isaac's father was actually Philip.]
  • With Mary Flood, he had Nelson and James Harrison Long.
