Phillip's first wife died some time before he was named his daughter's guardian 9 Nov 1825; he was taxed in Allegheny County, MD until 1824. At some point shortly thereafter, Philip moved across the Potomac from Maryland to Hampshire County, Virginia (now, and after 1866, Mineral County, WV), and began farming on land belonging to John Flood, Mary's father. Their first child together was born before they were married (and thus was later adopted by Philip) in 1827, followed by Nelson Long in September 1828. |
