May be related to the Philip A. Smith who is also in the 1839 city directory with him, operating a grocery store on Main Street, a block from Huron. (Philip A. Smith is buried beaneath a large stone near the entrance to Forest Lawn.)

Daniel Cook documents a Peter Smith in the 1850 Federal Census in Black Rock: Peter Smith, age 50, born Germany, phairier, with a Catharine, age 21. But a Margaret Smith, 62, is living with John and Marg. RAUM in Ward 4. (Daniel Cook's contacts indicate a belief that Peter and Margaret were not living together; this would support that theory.)

Per Daniel Cook, Peter Smith left half of his estate to Peter Smith, Jr., under one year of age.
