OBITUARY
Orland Griffeth, 87, a pioneer of this vicinity, coming to the town of Porter in 1846 with his parents, died at 6 p.m., Saturday at the University hospital, Madison, following several weeks' illness. Mr. Griffeth was born in Chautauqua County, N.Y., in 1837. The family came west in 1846 and located in the Town of Porter.
Sixty-three years ago Mr. Griffeth was married to Miss Sarah Moore, town of Porter. Three children were born to this union, Benjamin, Edwin, who died in 1906 and Frank, who died in 1920. Mrs. Griffeth died 57 years ago.
In 1879, Mr. Griffeth was married to Miss. Mary Stanley, Chicago, who died 29 years ago. For many years Mr. Griffeth lived on the homestead farm with his son Edwin, later coming to Evansville, where he lived with another son, Benjamin. He also spent many years in travel. Mr. Griffeth was a member of the Methodist church and the Odd Fellows lodge. He is survived by his son, Benjamin, three grandchildren, Willis and Harold Griffeth, and Mrs. Lottie Magee; ten great grandchildren, all of the vicinity of Evansville.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the home of his son, the Rev. Frank Hanaman of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery, with the Odd Fellow burial service.
