Norton and his father, William M Granger were killed when a train hit the buggy at the railroad crossing of the Rome, Watretown and Ogdensburg railroad, in Ontario, NY. They were on their way to the Rochester & Sodus Bay Trolley so Norton and a few of his friends could go to see a baseball game in Rochester, NY. Rev. Stewart of the Baptist Church officiated at the double funeral.
