BIOGRAPHY: from Martha Seaver Kimball notes

"According to a letter written to Priscilla, Anne and Martha Seaver by their mother, Inez Waite Seaver, Nathanael Seaver "was the practical business man of the family and lived all his life in Boston. He was a vigorous, energetic man, a prosperous store-keeper (groceries) and was also much interested in public affairs ... Besides managing his business at the store he served on a volunteer fire brigade, was captain of the Boston police force, an alderman, and a member of the General Court. He lived on Burroughs St, Jamaica Plain, until he decided Jamaica Plain was building up too fast, when he moved to East Boston and established his store at Maverick Square ...He seems to have owned two houses, one on Henry St, one on Paris St. The family lived well and generously ... (He) was not much of a churchman, but he supported the church liberally and his generosity in good works, especially to people in need, was unbounded. Much of his money was in real estate and he held mortgages on many pieces of property. In his very late years he became blind." (Martha (Seaver) Kimball Notes)

A newspaper article of 1870 on the occasion of his retirement from the board of aldermen recognized his zeal as well as his open and above board conduct ever since he entered city government. (Martha (Seaver) Kimball notes)
