Moses Tullis (1779) Family Bible

This is the genealogical information contained in the Family Bible of Moses Tullis (1779) and his wife Polley Blalock. They lived in Edgefield District, South Carolina, and in Lincoln County, Georgia. According to this Bible record, they had 20 children, but only name 10 here. James Monroe Tullis, whose birth is recorded herein, was my great-great-grandfather.

This Bible was in the possession of Miss Annie McMahon and Mrs. Katie (McMahon) Scott (descendants of Moses Tullis, Jr., named herein) of Baytown, TX, as of 1981. I had the opportunity of visiting with them at that time and photographing the family history pages of the Bible. I understand that they have both passed away now and the current location of the Bible is unknown. Moses Tullis Sinor was born February 8th AD 1779. Polley Blalock his Wife was born October 25th AD 1783. John Blalock Tullis a son of the aforesaid was born October 27th AD 1800. Moses Tullis a son of the aforesaid was born June 9th AD 1804. Elizabeth Tullis a daughter of the aforesaid was born October 22nd AD 1808. Elijah Tullis a son of the aforesaid was born August 25th AD 1810. Gipson Tullis a son of the aforesaid was born March 19th(?) AD 1813. Catherine Tullis a daughter of the aforesaid was born November 8th AD 1815(?). Thomas Jefferson Tullis a son of the aforesaid was born August 3rd AD 1818.

James Monroe Tullis a son of the aforesaid was born June 22nd AD 1822. Martha Tullis a daughter of the aforesaid was born March 8 AD 1824. Newel Hill Tullis the forteenth Son and the twentieth Child of Moses Tullis and Polley his wife was born March 4th AD 1828. Penelope Mayo was born October 10th day AD 1818.

Moses Tullis and Poley his Wife was Married December 24 AD 1800. John B. Tullis was Married December AD 1822. Elizabeth Tullis was Married November 17 AD 1825. Moses Tullis Junior was Married August 10th AD 1825. Gibson Tullis and Penelope Mayo was Married August 11th AD 1835. Catharine Tullis and Benjamin Langford was Married December 10th day AD 1835. Martha Tullis and Alfred Cook was Married Dec. 23 AD 1841.

Deaths

Thomas Jefferson Tullis Deceased Sept 24 AD 1818. Elizabeth Tullis Decd August 27 AD 1830. Polley Tullis Deceased December 23rd AD 1839. Moses Tullis Seinior Deceast January 10th(?) AD 1844. John B. Tullis Deceast November the 11th 1846. Moses Tullis Junior Deceased Oct the 27th AD 1869 Aged Sixty five years four Months and Eighteen Days.

Obituary from the Columbus Enquirer, Columbus, GA, Jan 31, 1844 issue (Available at Bradley Memorial Library, Columbus, GA):

In Marion Co, GA, on the twelfth instant Mr. Moses Tullis in the 73rd year of his age. Mr. T has been long and favorably known as a faithful and efficient officer in his district and will be a great loss to the public service and his death a afflictive bereavement to his numerous relatives and friends.

Notes about Moses' date of birth: The family bible could be interpreted as saying either "1777" or "1779" as his year of birth. Neither is consistent with the obituary in the newspaper, which implies 1771.
