Edgefield Co, SC, Record of Deeds, Vol 39, p. 7: Deed of Gift recorded in Lincoln C, Georgia Sarah Morris to William Tullis (I have an exact transcription in my files.) "Sarah Morris" is deeding her son "William Tullis" of Abbeville District, SC, all of the property to which she is entitled in the will of her father, Moses Tullis. The deed of gift is dated October 10, 1817, which is not long after her father died. It was recorded 4 Feb. 1822. My interpretation of this is that her son William was probably born out of wedlock, and thus was given her maiden name at that time, Tullis. Later, she must have married a Mr. Morris. She then decided that she wanted William to inherit what she was due of his grandfather's property.
