Mary Elizabeth Walsh was born in 1887 in the village of Foynes, Ireland, to Edmund (or Edward) Walsh and Elizabeth Shanahan. She immigrated to the United States at some point and settled in the Detroit area of Michigan. In 1913, at age 26, she married William Aloysius Steenburg, who was born 7 March 1884, in E. Jordan, Michigan.

Mary and William had three children, one of whom was Earl Steenburg, born 10 July 1921 in Detroit. Earl married Catherine Cornaire and had at least one child and two grandsons. (That last sentence is uncertain, due to unclear notation in the source.)

William died 4 Oct. 1956. Mary Elizabeth died 28 Sep. 1957, in Detroit, and is buried in Holy Family Sepulcher Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.

   The Beldings are descendants of Mary Elizabeth Walsh. They note that she and her sister Katherine, who also immigrated to the U.S., were both known as "Aunt Ciss."

   In this census, Mary's age is given as 17 and John's as 16 (which agrees with his birth date of May 1884, since the census was taken in March). This suggests that Mary was actually born in 1883 (after Mar 31), unless there is an error in the order of the children in this census. Census records and her marriage record in the U.S. suggest she was born about 1887. She may have "lost" a few years on her move to the U.S.
