Edmund (or Edward) Walsh was born in 1857 in the county of Limerick, Ireland. He was married in 1877 at age 20 in the village of Foynes in the same county, so presumably he was born in Foynes. The bride was Elizabeth Shanahan, age 19 and born in 1858 in Foynes. They continued to live in Foynes, where all nine of their children were born, and died there, Elizabeth in 1936 at the age of 78 and Edmund in 1944 at age 87.

   Edmund's son John Walsh was married twice. Both his 1911 marriage and 1921 marriage certificates list "Edward Walsh" as his father.
