Mary Swallow was born on 10th September 1734 and baptised five days later at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire, daughter of Elizabeth Swallow, formerly Green, and her husband John Swallow, a tailor.

On 13th June 1757, when she was 22 years old, she married a John Halsey from the neighbouring parish of Sandridge. They married at Wheathampstead, and had a son named John baptised there the following year.

They then moved to Sandridge, where they went on to have another six children baptised between 1760 and 1778. Back in Wheathampstead, Mary's father died in 1767 and her mother the following year.

Mary died at the age of 72, being buried at Sandridge on 28th June 1807. John survived her by nearly twenty years.
