By 1910, ten children had been born and five were alive. She had six children before her marriage to Louis DuFore. Two died and four were taken by the county. After her marriage to Louis, they 'reclaimed' one of the boys, Alex. Her four boys had different last names. Two more sons were born after Laura who died in childbirth or infancy. She was a very good cook and Laura, her daughter, remembers they always seemed to have people at the house who went away full and happy. She worked in the logging camps and was a midwife, who bragged she never lost a baby or mother. She loved children. She managed the money and Louis spent it. They paid for the surgery to correct her grandchild, Marie's, hairlip. She and Louis insisted on education for the children. She disciplined with a buggy whip and other things. She let a hard life. Belle Sweet said she was married several times and that her four children with Holmes were taken from her and sent to the Coldwater Childrens Home, and that she had two children with Louis DuFore, Ervie and Laurie.
