When he completed his draft card, September 12 1918, he lived in Ellsworth, Antrim County, but it looks like he farmed in South Arm, Charlevoix Co. At time of marriage and 1920, he was a farmer; 1930 a truck driver for Argo Milling. He was not a veteran. They had six children and lived next to his mother and step-father. Obituary ARTHUR A. BARNES RITES TUESDAY Charlevoix - Funeral Services for Arthur A. Barnes, 78, retired Argo Milling Co. employee, will be held at Winchester Funeral Home here at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Arthur A. Austin officiating. Burial will be in Brookside cemetery. Mr. Barnes died Friday at Lockwood General Hospital in Petoskey where he had been a patient for three days. He had been in failing health for some time. Born at Chestonia Jan 28, 1883, Mr. Barnes lived there and in East Jordan before coming here in 1921. He was employed by the Argo Milling Co. for 35 years. His wife, the former Effie Clark whom he married at East Jordan in 1902 peceded him in death in 1946. He is survived by two sons, Mertin of Grand Rapids and Lyle of Lake Orion; five daughters, Mrs. Marie Todd of Flint, Mrs. Vivian Perry of Dania, Fla., Mrs. Ethel Brown of Carp Lake; Mrs. Erma Deschermeier of Bay Shore and Mrs. Thelma Wallace of Sault Ste. Marie; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Mrs. Laura Jackson of California and a half-brother, Irving DeFore of Flint. Source: Petoskey News-Review, Mon., Mar. 20, 1961.
