Anita Hayes researched the Hewitts for me in 2006. She was not able to come to any conclusions, but did unearth possibilities. They are summarized here.

Reuben Patrick, who came to Attica from Brimfield, Massachusetts, did not have daughters, according to the census enumerations. He had four brothers, some of whom could have been Mary's father.

Joseph and Caleb Hewitt could have been Mary's father. Both were in Batavia in 1810. Caleb was in Middlebury by 1820.

Virginia Hewitt Watterson (deseased last year) wrote two books on two Hewett/Hewitt families. One follows the descendants of Thomas Hewett of Hingham, Mass. The other is Descendants of Thomas Hewitt of Stonington, Conn. Even though she made an error in my line, her material is quite good and is documented in most cases. I only have copies of the pages pertaining to my lineage. Mary is not a dau of Joseph as I have been able to identify all the children who lived to adulthood. There may be a possibility of an infant but even that is questionable. Caleb had three daus but none identified. I thought perhaps they were Sally, Sarah, and or Mina as these Hewett females attended the same church as the rest of my Hewett family. There was a son David about whom there is no further detail.

Virginia did tell me that the Mass. Hewett line most often used the Hewett spelling and the Conn. family used the Hewitt spelling.
