Although her name is given as Derrick, this is not a common Irish name. It seems likely that it was something like DARRAGH.

Mary was a convict (CON 52/6, 52/7 p. 324), transported to Tasmania on Baretto Junior. It left Downs on 13 April 1850 and arrived at VDL on 25 July 1850 - a journey of 103 days. 190 female convicts embarked and 186 disembarked. J. Huggins was the captain and R. Whitmore Clarke was the surgeon.

Mary applied for permission to marry James Regan (a convict transported on the Nile) on 22 August 1853. However, there is no marriage registration. It is not known at this time why the marriage did not take place. She applied for permission to marry Francis Nicholas on 29 May 1854.
