 "George Campbell, the maternal grandfather of Charles W. Clay, was the son of Robert Campbell, Jr., who was a brother of Rev. John P. Campbell, the first Presbyterian clergyman in Nicholas County, Kentucky. This pioneer minister was the grandfather of Hon. James E. Campbell, former governor of the State of Ohio. The paternal grandmother of Mr. Clay was a second cousin of Governor Morton, chief executive of the State of Indiana during the Civil War, and she was a kinswoman also of Hon. Levi P.
