Facts and Events
Plymouth Deeds The first deed shows no signs of a relationship, and it is possible Richard had not yet married Joseph's daughter Mary. Vol. 9, p. 36 11 Dec 1689: Joseph Bassett Sen'r of Bridgwater and Martha his wife for 55 shillings to Richard Gennings of Bridgwater a lot of 40 acres in Bridgwater being upon ye Easterly side of ye great River. This second deed seems to reflect a relationship so undoubtedly married by now. This apparently causes some people to assume Mary was William's daughter, but the third deed shows it is a more distant relationship. See son Samuel's page for a deed showing her father was actually Joseph Bassett. Vol. 10, p. 11 1 Feb 1693/4: Capt'n William Bassett Inhabitant in the Town of Sandwich for Love & good Will I bare unto Richard Ginnings Inhabitant in the Town of Bridgewater 5 acres in Bridgewater easterly of s'd Ginnings his house and joyning his lands. Vol. 9,p. 35 17 Jul 1697: William Bassett of ye Towne of Sandwich for £10 to "my Kinsman Richard Gennings of ye Towne of Bridgwater" 50 acres adjacent to ye Lands of s'd Richard Gennings which I bought of Thomas Snell Sen'r.
