Martha Jeff’s origins have yet to be established. The age given when she died suggests that she was born around 1760. Her first confirmed sighting is on 11th October 1785, when she married John Rowland Piggot at St Mary’s Church in Warwick. Martha and John went on to have four children together in Warwick between their marriage and about 1794.

John died in 1797. Martha was left raising their young children alone. She survived John by nearly 34 years, but never remarried.

Martha died in 1831, being buried at St Mary’s in Warwick on 4th June 1831. She was said to be seventy years old. Her last abode was given as Saltisford, the main road out of Warwick to the north-west.
