    Birth 1732
Plumstead Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
    Death 1770 (aged 37–38)
    Virginia, USA

EDWARD POE's 1st wife was MARTHA BRITTAIN the mother of his first 4 known children. She was the daughter of JOHN BRITTAIN and ELIZABETH STILLWELL. JOHN BRITTAIN had moved from Shrewbury, NJ over to Bucks Co., PA. Edward and Martha were married in 1755 in Plumstead Twp., Bucks Co, Pennsylvania.

    Edward and Martha's children were:
    Joseph Poe (1754-1838)
    John Poe (1756-
    Abigail (1760-1845)
    Patrick (1762-1841)

About 1770, Edward and Martha relocated with their four children in the Shenendoah Valley of Virginia -- the precise location isn't known. It is apparently there that Martha (Brittain) Poe died there shortly before the American Revolution. Edward Poe had served bravely during the Revolution. Edward did not remarry until after the war. His 2nd wife was Catharine.

After living in Maryland for some time, he moved to Bracken County, Kentucky. Three of Edward and Martha's sons (Joseph, John and Patrick) were already living there by 1799.
