Will Abstract
- Will of John Britton, written March 21, 1770; proved May 2, 1785.
- Mentioned: wife Elizabeth, to receive house and land during her widowhood with 4 pounds per annum; also some furniture; the land on the east side of the Durham Road to be sold with the personal property, and the money divided between five daughters, Elizabeth, wife of Edward Morris; Anna, wife of William Young; Hannah, wife of Peter Cosner; Mary, wife of James Lewis, and Martha, wife of Edward Poe. Anna's share to be in trust.
- Upon the death of his wife, the house and land therewith to be sold and the money to be divided among all the children: the sons William, Nathaniel, Nathan, Joseph and Benjamin to have a double share.
- To my granddaugther, a daughter of my oldest son Richard Britton, the sum of 20 shillings.
- Sons, Nathaniel and Nathan to be executors.
- [Note: The latter, Nathan, died before his father. 1770]

- Memoranda from the Diary of John Dyer of Plumstead, Bucks County, Pennsylvania" mention is made of his passing with the following entry: "10/28/1784 John Brittain departed this life this day, an aged man of good repute."
