MARION was born at Black Hill on 27th June 1870, the eighth child of Phyllis and Richard.

After leaving Scarsdale school she lived and helped at home. When farm work permitted she was able to assist other members of her family. She kept house for Alexander Nelson for six weeks after the death of her sister, Jane, in 1894. Following David’s marriage in 1919 Marion took a position at the Scarsdale Library with accommodation in the library cottage.

She later moved to Melbourne where she worked for some years with a family in Clifton Hill, finally retiring back to Scarsdale. She enjoyed her garden, was a good cook and her needlework was much admired. She died on her birthday in 1936 and is buried at Smythesdale-Scarsdale cemetery.
