See Notes for Simon Menegay obituary text _FOOT: Louisville Herald, 10/30/1909

Simon Menegay, perhaps the oldest citizen of this section in point of
continuous residence, died at his home on West Gorgas Street, Saturday
morning, aged 79 years. Mr. Menegay was sick for several weeks and his death
was caused by paralysis. His father was Claude Joseph Menegay, who came to
America with his family in 1828, and settled just west of where Louisville
now is. Here he acquired 1000 acres of land and gave 80 acres to each member
of his family of eleven children. The house which he built is yet standing
but it was remodeled some years ago. It is related that the first Catholic
service in this section was held by missionary priests in the Menegay home.
Simon Menegay was born at the old homestead in 1830 and with the
exception of five years, during which he resided in Louisville, spent his
entire life there. In 1850, he and Miss Elizabeth Monnot were married and
they lived happily together until 1882, when Mrs. Menegay died. The children
    who are living are: Louis Menegay, of Cleveland; Eugene Menegay, of Canton;
Charles X. Menegay, of Canton; Frank X. Menegay, of Chippewa Lake; Henry
Menegay, of Canton; Mrs. Eugenia Faivre, of Dewitt, Mich; Mrs. Louis Ley, of
Canton; and Miss Annie Menegay, of Louisville. One son, Joseph Menegay, died
    some years ago.
Mr. Menegay held the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. He was a
life-long Democrat and held the office of trustee of Nimishillen township for
several terms. He was a faithful and earnest member of St. Louis church and
was on the church council for more than forty years.
Funeral services were held at St. Louis church on Tuesday morning and
the attendance was very large. The services were conducted by Rev. Francis
Senner, the pastor. The pall bearers were; John Jacquet, Josiah McKimm, John
    S. Myers, A.J. Zelger, Frank Paumier, and A.J. Metzger. The remains were
    entombed in St. Louis cemetery.
