Notes

GRAVESTONE: Gravestone located during survey of the Port Republic United Methodist Church's "Abandoned Cemetery" in Port Republic, Rockingham County, Virginia. It reads that Margaret Scott was the "wife of Amos, daughter of Thomas & Magdalene Hannah Mefford". Dates inscribed on gravestone for her life were "June 27, 1804 - December 12, 1846".
DEATH: Margaret Mefford Scott died December 12, 1846. 1850 Census records show that her youngest son, George, was also born in 1846. Its highly likely that Margaret died as a result of complications from giving birth to George.
