Margaret M. Casey, 84, of Luther Manor Nursing and Retirement Center, formerly of 2822 Pennsylvania Ave., died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Mrs. Casey was a sales clerk in the shoe department at JC Penney for more than 20 years, retiring in 1973. She was born on Nov. 19, 1914, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Rose (Donavan) Barrett. She married Carl Casey on Jan. 4, 1932, at St. Raphael's Cathedral; he died on July 29, 1961. She served as president of the Dubuque Wa-Tan-Ye on two separate occasions and was a past district president of the Iowa Wa-Tan-Ye. She was a volunteer at The Finely Hospital, Mercy Hospitals and Hillcrest Family Services. Surviving are a daughter, Darlene (Donald) Christ, of Dubuque; a son, Tom (Pat) Casey, of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; her sister, Marie (Maas) Hoover, of Dubuque; and a brother, Louie Barrett, of Dubuque. She was preceded in death by two sons, Carl and Robert; her parents; five brothers, John, Leo, Marty, Francis and Willy; and two sisters, Rosetta and Katie. In lieu of flowers, a Margaret Casey Memorial Fund has been established.
