Major McKim, age 30, (can't read occupation), born Texas; Lucrecia (sic), age 30, born Louisiana; James, age 8, born Texas; John, age 6, born Texas; William, age 4, born Texas; Afa (sp? - female), age 2, born Texas, B (sic - male), age 1, born Texas. Listed in the 1870 Harris County, Texas Census, Houston Post Office, enumerated August 11, page 84, Dwelling 638, Household 640 as Major McKim, age 46, farmer, born TX. With wife, children, and L.C. Farrell, male, age 18, farm laborer, born TX. Major McKim is listed in the deed distribution to James McKim's land. From the Newton County Genealogical Society: "Major McKIM, b 1829, m Lucretia BRANDIN in Polk County in 1850. Their children: James, b 1852; John, b 1854; William Jr., b 1856; (Note from Bonnie: What’s with the Jr.???) Elizabeth, b 1858. Boy not named. (1860 census). Major was educated as an engineer. He lived at Sebastapole once and signed legal papers as 'Major McKIM, J.P.' He after moved to Harris County & settled on what was later named McKIM Creek, near Tomball. His military record: Private, 20 Texas Infantry, Elmore’s Reg. (See Charles McKIM) Surrendered by Gen. E. Kirby SMITH, C.S.A. to Maj. Gen. E. R. S.
