Luther Green, one of the pioneers of Allegany county, was born in Rhode Island in 1796, and came to Independence, this county, from Madison county in 1820, where he settled and lived on the same farm that he first occupied, for the remarkably long period of seventy-two years, dying there at the age of ninety-six in 1892.
