Lucy Alice (Powell) Wallington, age 24, arrived in Victoria, Australia on the ship Durham in September, 1875 with her son Charles Wallington, age 5. Lucy was on the same ship as her future brother in law, William Whalley and his family. Lucy married William's brother Robert Whalley within a year of her arrival.

Lucy's age may be wrong in the immigration record. She was 27 in the 1871 English census.

Why did the young widow, Lucy Wallington, move to Victoria with her child? Did she have family there?

Lucy was friends and thought to be related to Harriett Olive Powell. Harriet's father, William Powell, had come to Australia in 1858. The nature of the relationship between Lucy and Harriett is unknown.
