Lewis lived in Urbana, Indiana for a few years following his marriage in 1891. He was a carpenter by trade. Then he moved to Kansas where he engaged in farming and carpentry. The later years of his life were spent in Thermopolis, Wyoming where he engaged in contracting and built many of the larger buildings erected in that neighborhood.
