Utica Morning Herald, 16 June 1899 / Oswego Daily Palladium, 16 June 1899: INHUMANITY ALLEGED Orwell, June 15-About two weeks ago Mrs. Lewis Durgee was taken to the Insane Asylum at Ogdensburg. Her death occurred last week. Her neighbors say that they believe that cruel treatment caused her insanity and death. They declare that three of her ribs had been broken and that her body was covered with bruises. Her husband was arrested last winter for robbing her, but the matter was finally settled. There is much excitement in the neighborhood and many are calling for an official investigation.
