Facts and Events
[edit] ObituaryWyandot County Republican, 3 Mar 1887, p 3, col. 3 Death of Levi Savidge This past year has taken with it an unusual number of old settlers, from this place, the last being Mr. Levi Savidge, who died at his home last Saturday morning, March 5th, 1887. He was a native of New Jersey, having been born July 9th, 1815, and came to Ohio in 1824, settling in Muskingum county. In that place, 1837, he married Rebecca Leslie, and shortly afterwards came to this county, and resided in Crawfordsville. Seven children were born to them. At the beginning of the war, Mr. S. moved to Upper Sandusky and carried the United States mails from Tiffin to Delaware. He used to go from Tiffin and back in one day, and to Delaware and return in two days. This he did in all kinds of weather, which was very hard on him. Some five years ago his eyes became diseased and shortly lost his sight, having been totally blind for about four years. His health has been very feeble for some time, and after long suffering, he peacefully passed away at the time stated above. He was a faithful member of the M. E. Church and the funeral services were held in that church on Sunday afternoon, Rev. N. B. C. Love delivering a very instructive and impressive discourse. The attendance was large, the church being crowded, showing that he was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends. A quiet, honest, industrious christian gentlemen has gone to his rest.
