He was for twenty-five years a rural letter carrier, and, as his avocation, he served as a preacher in the Church of Christ.[1] He was an itinerant preacher, traveling to one of about four different churches every Sunday. Every summer he participated in a tent revival event (in Tennessee?).[2]
