Lavina with husband Alfred, his brother George and three of George's sons, about 1929
Lavina Barnwell was born on 26th February 1896 at Coventry in Warwickshire, daughter of an iron moulder named John Barnwell and his wife Annie. The 1901 census finds Lavina living with her parents and siblings at 22 White Friars Lane in Coventry, to the south-east of the city centre.
Lavina, who was known as Dolly, was married in 1929, aged 33 to a man named Alfred Thomas Mitchell. They do not appear to have had any children.
Alfred died in 1955, aged 66. They had been married for 25 years. Dolly outlived Alfred by over 40 years. She lived to be 100 years old, dying a couple of months after her hundredth birthday in 1996.
