!BIRTH-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-RESIDENCES: Elton J. Oubre, "The Malbrough Family," 21-page article sent by Edward Domangue in May 1996; (details also included on pp. 240-250 of Stephen S. Michot, THE LAFOURCHE COUNTRY II). On p. 4, Jean Baptiste Laurent FALTEMANNE dit DESAIRES was married to Marie MALBROUGH, oldest child of Nicholas MALBROUGH & Marie CHRISTINE HOURY. Their marriage record at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, LA lists Laurent FELTERMENT, son of Joseph & Anne VIRTEMANNE, married to Marie MAROFFE, daughter of Nicholas MAROFFE & Christina ORY. Both parties were of German nationality. Witnesses: Pierre ARCENEAUX; Francois PERTUIT. Groom signed as Lorenz FELLMANN. Recorded (SJA-1, 42a). They appeared on the 1770 census of Ascension Parish, on the right bank of the Mississippi River, upriver from the present city of Donaldsonville. He was listed as Laurent FALTEMANNE, age 37, with his wife Marie MAROPHLE age 15, in household #37. They later had at least three children. Laurent PILTMANE [sic?] was listed alone on the 1769 census living at least 10 arpents above Bayou Lafourche. John Hanno Deiler, SETTLEMENT OF THE GERMAN COAST OF LOUISIANA AND THE CREOLES OF GERMAN DESCENT, was in error when he supposed Lorenz was from the group of Maryland Germans who came from Fort Pitt, since these only arrived around Aug 1774.
