  3. Obituary Of The Late Mrs. Klaasje Kooiker
Mrs. Klaasje Kooiker was born in February 19, 1866, at Staphorst, Netherlands. She was married to William Kooiker, who had been farming in America for five year. On the return to America with him, she spent her 25th birthday on the boat. They settled on a farm southeast of Hull where they lived for 40 years.

In May 1931, they moved to Hull and after a few months illness, Mr. Kooiker died from cancer on July 19, 1931.
To this union eight children were born, one of whom, a son, died in infancy in 1901. The surviving children are: Herman, Mary, Klaas, Helen (Mrs. John Kroese), John, Jennie (Mrs. Arie Vander Weide), and Gertrude (Mrs. Peter Van Kalsbeek).

Mrs. Kooiker is the last survivor of a family of six, three brothers and two sisters. She had been a diabetic patient for nearly 26 years although she was bedfast only two weeks before her death when complications of the liver set in. On Saturday evening, July 1, she passed away at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 12 days.

The funeral services were held July 5, at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o'clock at the local Protestant Reformed Church with Rev. J.D. De Jong in charge. Interment was made at Hope cemetery.
