According to 'Locke Family History', "Mary [Parrish] married Thompson Shankland. To this union were born 3 children. Simon, Ed, and a girl who died. Young Simon killed her cleaning a gun accidentally."

 Kendall and Mariah/Mary emigrated to Indiana by 1860 where many of his cousins and uncles had settled.
 In the 1860 census for Steuben township, Warren Co., Indiana, 'Tompson Shankland' is a farmer age 30 from Kentucky, with $400.  His wife Mary is 24, from Kentucky and son Simeon is 8/12 months, born in 'Ia' [Indiana].  Also in the household are John Hessmore, 23, Albert Hoover, 24, Isaac Francis, 14 and Emanuel Turnville, 16, all farm labor.  {p. 169}  Next door is the Jesse Shankland family, a farmer age 43, also born in Kentucky  [his cousin.]
 NOTE: I have not been able to locate this family in the 1870 census for Warren Co.
  K.T. Shankland is found in the 1880 Census living in Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana age 50, from KY, father DE and mother PA.  His is living with son Simon V., age 20; Edward 18; Ella 10; Code, son 7; and Belle 5; all born in Indiana.  His sister Mary A. Shankland, age 27, keeping house; and William Berry, 'hosteler' age 40 from Ireland; are also in the household. {p. 49a, NARA T9-0320}
 In 1887 in Warren Co., Kendall T. Shankland applied for a license to marry Mrs. Hannah D. Meadows. 
 "At the M. E. Parsonage, Williamsport, Indiana, Tuesday, October 4th 1887, at 1 o'clock pm by Rev. Francis Cox, Mr. Kendall T. Shankland to Mrs. Hannah D. Meadows.  All of Warren County." {article in Warren Republican, 1887, copy in possession of researcher, S. B. Fitting}
