  2. Manitoba, Marquette, Dufferin South, in Canada. 1881 Census of Canada. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: Library and Archives Canada).

    Cornelius Ensz, age 62, farmer
    Elizabet Ensz, age 58

    Wilhelm Ensz, age 16
    Margreta Ensz, age 30
    Justina Ensz, age 40
all born in Russia, all Mennonite

It was not unusual to assume that all household members had the same last name. Justina "Ensz" may have been Justina Rempel, as suggested by the note in GRANDMA.

    BGB page 325.

The editors compared Quebec Passenger Lists to Hamburg, Germany Passenger Lists, and where the information was different, included the Hamburg information in square brackets [ ]. S1A-243 refers to Sommerfeld Gemeinde Buch, page 1A-243. Hoffnungsfeld/WR refers to a village in the Mennonite West Reserve of Manitoba, Canada.

  5. family number 522, in John Dyck, editor, "1881 Federal Census", published in Bergthal Gemeinde Buch (Steinbach, MB: The Hanover-Stei
    pages 381, 403.

'Village names were not included in the original census. The West Reserve Settlement Register, an 1880 census by village compiled by the Mennonite leadership, has made it possible to identify some village residents with certainty; ... Since the census could not always be completed in one village before the next one was started, some of the families included under a village heading may have lived elsewhere. Therefore the village names should be considered only as a guide to the place of residence. ...'
    'Hoffnungsfeld ...
    Cornelius Ensz 62
    Elisabet 58
    Peter 22
    Wilhelm 16
    Margreta 30
    Justina 40'

This assumes that the Justina in this household was Justina Rempel.
