Mrs. Julianna Skrove, aged 85 years, 11 months and 12 days, died at her home southeast of Brandon on Thursday, Feb. 29th. Her death came as a shock to relatives and friends, as she had enjoyed good health until the last.
Mrs. Skrove was born in Verdalen, Norway, March 17, 1854. She came to America with her parents at the age of 13 years. In 1871 she was united in marriage to Martinus Skrove of Jackson county. They resided there for two years, and then moved to Douglas county, purchasing the farm south of Brandon, which they operated until 15 years ago, when Mr. Skrove died and George Skrove, the youngest son took over the farm and Mrs. Skrove has made her home with him since. Mrs. Skrove had been a resident of this community for a period of over 65 years, with the exception of 12 years spent in Canada. She leaves to mourn six daughters and five sons. They are Mrs. Lorenza Kyllo ob Broch, Sask., Canada, Mrs. Edward Erickson and Mrs. Otto Erickson of Tugeske, Sask., Canada, Sigurd Skrove of Craik, Sask., Canada, Ole Skrove of Battlefort, Sask., Canada, Mrs. Christ Holm of Watrous, Sask., Canada, Mrs. Gust Schaubhut, George, Meyer and Tony Skrove of Brandon and Mrs. Helmer Peterson of Alexandria, besides 32 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Telle Wibstad of Brandon and a brother, S. M. Skrove of St. Petersburg, Fla. She is preceded in death by her husband and five children, who passed away many years ago. Mrs. Skrove was a kind and loving mother who exerted beneficial influence, not only to her family, but also to her many friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 5 at 1 p.m. from the residence and at 2 p.m. from the East Moe church of which she had been a faithful member, with Rev. C. B. Bestul officiating. Interment took place in the church cemetery in the family lot. Pallbearers were Simon Wibstad, Edwin Toft, Sam Thompson, John Lund, E. J. Lauthen and Robert Hjelsing.
