BRIGHT LIFE HAS CLOSED- THE LOSS IS DEEPLY FELT Miss Josie Dipboye Passed Away Suddenly Last Evening. Universal sorrow was expressed throughout the city early last evening when the news rapidly spread that Miss Josie Dipboye, a young lady who counted her friends in the city by the hundred, had been claimed by the Angel of death at the home of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. John W. Dipboye, 1820 South B street. Several months ago her health began failing and in April at Bluffton, she underwent an operation. For a time it was thought that this had proved successful and she returned to Elwood where she spent the summer at home, seeming to be gradually regaining her strength. Only a few days ago her condition became suddenly worse. Peritonitis developed and despite the frantic effort to serve her, the bright and beautiful life came to a close at 4 o'clock last evening. A Beautiful Life. The deceased who died at the age of 21 years, had spent her entire life in Elwood. She passed through the grade and high schools here and graduated as one of the first members of her class in 1911. She had always been ambitious to succeed and with the idea of preparing herself to take up the profession of teaching, she later entered the state normal school at Terre Haute. After finishing her work there she returned to Elwood and taught at the Coon Valley school 5 miles south of the city last winter, meeting with great success in her work there. It was about the time of the closing of the school that her health began failing and the operation followed in April. There are few lives more beautiful than that lived by Miss Dipboye. In school, at home or among her friends, she was always the same, anxious to please, conscientious in everything she did and a young lady who enjoyed the highest respect and the sincere friendship of everyone who came under her influence. That such a life of promise should end so early is indeed a heavy loss. Her parents, two brothers, John and Ollie and one sister, Miss Nila Pannas, survive her. The funeral will be held at the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will follow in the city cemetery. Elwood Call Leader, 7 Nov 1914
