Information on Josiah Ramsey

From Ancestry.com post:

According to Draper Manuscripts, Josiah Ramsey who was a captive of the Indians as a boy of about 10 was the son of Thomas Ramsey of Augusta County, VA who is found also in Botetourt, Fincastle and Washington Counties in VA. Thomas Ramsey who is said to have served in the French and Indian War is listed as one of the earliest settlers of Washington County, VA being there prior to 1770.

Henry and William Ramsey were also sons of Thomas Ramsey. He had daughters Mary Ramsey who married Colonel Anthony Bledsoe and Elizabeth who married Amos Heaton/Eaton.

Most of the members of this Ramsey family including Josiah, William and Henry removed to the Cumberland Settlements near Nashville. Henry, William, and Anthony Bledsoe were killed by Indians in the late 1780s. Josiah survived and removed to KY and finally to MO where he died at an advanced age.

JOSIAH RAMSEY "son of Josiah Ramsey of Reidy Creek in Wythe Co. VA, and brother of Mrs. Eaton and Thomas Ramsey" came "with his brother to the Cumberland Settlements in 1780".

THOMAS RAMSEY "son of Josiah Ramsey, and brother of Josiah Ramsey (see beforementioned)"

RAMSEY.-Jonathan Ramsey was born in Livingston county, Ky. His father was Josiah Ramsey, who was captured by the Indians when he was seven years of age, and remained with them until he was thirty (??, thirteen?). He became a celebrated hunter, and settled in Callaway county, Mo., in 1819. Jonathan was married in Kentucky, to Hannah Lampkin, by whom he had-Allen, Ewell, Maria, and Jane. Mr. Ramsey was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in 1820, and afterward represented Callaway county in the Legislature for several years. He was also one of the Commissioners selected to locate the Capital of the State. He strongly advocated Cotesansdessein as the place, but there was some dispute about the title to the land upon which the town was situated, and Jefferson City was selected as the future Capital. Mr. Ramsey was a shrewd business man, and accumulated a fortune before his death. Jane Ramsey married Robert Ewing, of Kentucky, and their son, Hon. Henry Clay Ewing, became Attorney-General of Missouri.
